Posted on November 13, 2011 by John Petit
The UFC held its first event on FOX tonight, and all things considered they hit this one out of the park. Only one fight aired on the FOX broadcast, and it only lasted 64 seconds, but for the first show in a 7 year partnership it went perfectly. Underdog Junior dos Santos was able to knock out Cain Velasquez, and earn the heavyweight champion. He also earned a 65 thousand dollar bonus for knock out of the night.
The co main event, which was aired on facebook, was the fight of the night between Benson Henderson and Clay Guida. The two fought for the full 3 rounds, and it was the larger Henderson who walked off with the judges nod. Although they both earned the bonus money, it was Henderson who earned the next shot at the Lightweight Champions Frankie Edgar’s belt. That fight is expected to happen in Japan.
The submission of the night went to Ricard Llamas for his slick arm triangle choke over Cub Swanson in the second round. He earned a cool 65k himself. Also on the card, Robert Peralta beat Mackens Semerzier by technical knock out. However, in the replay you can clearly see a head but is what lead to the finish in the match. I have confirmed with Semerzier manager that they will file a formal complaint on Monday to make the fight a no contest.
