The UFC returned to Denver, Colorado for the first time since 1995, and they brought a card worthy of a homecoming to the fans in attendance and the viewers at home. Jon Jones defended his light heavyweight championship belt against Quinton Rampage Jackson in an exciting main event. Jones used his length and reach to keep Rampage on the outside of his strikes and picked him apart. The end of the fight came in round 4 when Jones took the back of Jackson and secured a rear naked choke at 1:14. Even though Rampage said some disparaging things about Bones in the lead up to the fight, he complimented him by saying he was a good fighter.

In the co-main event, Josh Koscheck was able to knock out UFC Hall Of Famer Matt Hughes with just one second left in round 1. The talk before the fight was that Hughes had planned on retiring after the fight, but Hughes asked the UFC to “Put him on the shelf for a while.” Koscheck was a last minute replacement for Diego Sanchez. Koscheck thanked Hughes for the fight, and said he spent some time focusing on himself while he was recovering from inuries.
