Around The UFC: First Fox Fight Announced, Mayhem Miller Arrested, SpikeTV Makes it Official

First UFC On FOX Fight Announced

The first fight on the new UFC on FOX first card was announced, and it seems to be a featherweight fight between two quickly rising stars. The ink is barely dry on the UFC and FOX deal, and the promotion has announced that Dustin Poirier and Pablo Garza is the first fight signed for the November 12, 2011 event.

The 22 year old Poirier started fighting for Zuffa under the WEC banner, and although he lost his first fight to Danny Castillio, he did enough in his next win to earn him a fight in the UFC when they disbanded the WEC. So far he has defeated Josh Grispi and most recently Jason Young by unanimous decision under the UFC banner. Both of his UFC fights have been at his new weight of Featherweight. Poirier is 10-1, and his only loss is to the aforementioned Castillio.

The 27 year old Pablo Garza also came from the WEC, and had his first Zuffa fight against Zhang Tie Quan where he lost via guillotine in the first round. Garza was able to do enough to convince the UFC that he deserved a shot in the big show, and agreed to fight Fredson Paixão at The Ultimate Fighter Season 12 Finale. Garza knocked out Paixão in 50 seconds, earning him another fight and a knock out of the night bonus. Garza was then set to face Yves Jabouin at UFC 129, the biggest fight ever for the UFC promtion and the largest in North American history. Again Garza earned a fight night bonus, but this one was submission of the night for a legendary flying triangle submission he was able to put on Yves Jabouin before the first round ended.

Jason Mayhem Miller

Jason Mayhem Miller, professional MMA fighter/MTV Host for Bully Beatdown/ Coach on The Ultimate Fighter was arrested last week for assault in North Carolina. According to web tabloid TMZ, Miller was at a house party with his sister and some friends. At some point Miller’s sister wanted to leave the party, and Miller wanted to stay. According to the report, Jason put his sister in a headlock and wouldn’t let her leave. When she was able to get away, she notified the Chatham County Sherrif and Mayhem was arrested for assault and false imprisonment. He has been released on bail, and has not commented on the ordeal.

SpikeTV Makes it Official

SpikeTV has released a press release about the future of their relationship with the UFC. In short, they have confirmed that the relationship will dissolve after the completion of “The Ultimate Fighter 14” television series. According to Dana White, the deal was put to an end by SpikeTV’s owners Viacom, and the executives at SpikeTV didn’t want to see it end at all.  Lorenzo Ferittita has said he expects SpikeTV to say in the mixed martial arts business, but really has no idea how they will do that. Some have been arguing that Bellator will likely be moved to the SpikeTV channel, as MTV (their current home) is also run by VIacom. According to Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney, he isn’t aware of any moves and says as of right now he is committed to his contract at MTV2.
