Anderson Silva Profile

The 36 year old Brazilian mixed martial artist has fought all over the world, and has won titles in just about every organization he has fought in. He is most well known for his superb Muay Thai skills which is considered to be the source of his expert precision striking, but he also holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, a yellow rope in capoeira, and a black belt in brazilian jiu jitsu under the Nogueira brothers (lineage through Carlson Gracie.) He is a former member of the legendary Chute Boxe Academy which is primarily known for their intense full contact practices and for producing some of the best talent to ever fight in the sport of mixed martial arts. Former Chute Boxe fighters include former Pride champion Wanderlei Silva, former UFC champion Mauricio Shogun Rua, former Elite XC champion Murilo Ninja Rua, Rafael Cordeiro, Gabriel Gonzaga and Fabricio Werdum. Anderson left Chute Boxe to form Muay Thai Dream Team, but he left there as well to join his current gym Black House with Lyoto Machida, Vitor Belfort, Assuerio Silva, and the Nogueira brothers among others.

Silva began his professional MMA career in 1997 in Brazil, and has fought all over the world. Most notably in Pride, Shooto (where he captured his first title,) Cage Rage (where he also captured a title,) and currently with the UFC. Besides being the Middleweight Champion, he has set numerous records in his 7 year stretch with the UFC. He unified the Pride and the UFC middleweight strap by defeating Dan Henderson (current Strikeforce Champion,) he has the most consecutive and overall title defenses(8) in UFC history, most consecutive wins in UFC history 13, and the longest UFC title reign in UFC history(6 plus years.)

Many consider Anderson Silva the best pound for pound fighter on the planet, and if you are the outspoken President of the UFC Dana White, you would say he is the best mixed martial artist in the history of the sport. He has consistently fought and defeated ranked opponents in both the middleweight division as well as the light heavyweight division. He is undefeated in the UFC, and has finished all but two of his opponents. His last loss came in 2006 against current number 1 contender Yushin Okami. Silva was dominating the fight until Okami managed to take him down, and Silva landed an up-kick(that knocked him out cold) while Okami had both knees on the ground. SIlva was disqualified for the strike. Silva will face Okami at UFC 134 in Brazil in the main event. It was 2004 that Silva had his last real loss.
