Brendan Schaub Profile
After being an all state high school football player, Brendan Schaub earned himself a full ride scholarship to the University of Colorado where he played 4 years as a full back. Schaub signed a contract to play in the Arena Football League, and even found himself on the Buffalo Bills practice squad. Schaub hung up his football cleats, and decided to focus on mixed martial arts.
Schaub returned to Colorado where he found former UFC’s fighters Nate Marquardt’s gym Grudge Training Center. Schaub had used MMA through out his career as a way to stay in shape, but never dedicated any real time to it. It was also there where he met his now friend and current training partner Shane Carwin. Schaub started fighting on local and regional shows around Colorado, and before he long he had a 4-0 record. It was then when he and his team decided he should go on the Heavyweights Season of the UFC’s reality show “The Ultimate FIghter.” Schaub won and finished all of his fights, and found himself in the finale against long time MMA veteran Roy Nelson. Schaub suffered his first career loss that night when Nelson knocked him out in the first round. Despite not winning the contract, the UFC signed Schaub where he currently fights.
Schaub really started to turn heads in the UFC when he finished his next two opponents early in the first round. Schaub opened even more eyes when he fought long time UFC veteran Gabriel Gonzaga, and was able to win a decision. Before the Gonzaga fight Schaub earned his purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. After defeating Gonzaga, Schaub found himself scheduled to fight Mirko Crocop. The long time Pride veteran Mirko Crocop, at one time believed to be the best striker in MMA, fought a tough fight against Schaub. However, it was Schaub who used his striking to knock out Crocop later in the third round. The knock out earned him a KO of the night bonus from the UFC. He is now scheduled to fight Antônio Rodrigo ‘Minotauro’ Nogueira at UFC 134 in Brazil.
